The demon bird

The demon bird

My son did not know what a cuckoo looked like. The first time he saw it, he came running saying – ‘Mama, look, a demon bird’. The name has stuck. And come to think of it, why does it need to have red eyes?!? Does look a bit like bird-shaped Balrog. And if that does not prove it is a demon, look at how it cunningly lays its egg in another bird’s nest and let that chick throw the other legitimate inmates out! Demonic, indeed!

I am always shooing them . They try to build their nests on the ceiling fans in the verandah. Yucky!

I thought cuckoos do not build any nests – I am perhaps mistaken?

They try to make a nest in unlikely places. When they are unable or per my observation , I think they do it at the last minute they give up and lay their eggs in other birds’ nests. You have aptly given them the name demon. They have driven me nuts.

We had barn swallows build a nest on top of the front door, then they would dive bomb at you each time you came and went! Yikes!

We have the ‘flying rats’ – pigeons! What a mess! I wonder why they cannot use somewhere else as restroom! I wonder if there is a market for pigeon beaks or something, perhaps then they will be hunted down…. ohhh evil thought I know.
